International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro” is open to all cellists under 20. The applications must be submitted until the 26th September 2008. on the following address:

All applicants will receive a reply after their applications were received.

The competitors have to report at least one day prior to the beginning of the competition at the competition Head Office, at the Music School “Slavko Zlatić”, Kandlerova 2, Poreč, and show their passports as proof of their identity.

Programme and categories

Pre-category: born in 1998 and later.
Two pieces contrasting in character (including two movements from a sonata or concerto), with piano.

1st Category: born in 1997 and later.
Duration up to 5-10 minutes
a) two pieces or two movements from a sonata or concerto contrasting in character, with piano
b) one piece or an etude for cello solo

2nd Category: born in 1994 and later.
Programme lasting up to 10-20 minutes
a) one movement from a sonata or concerto (two contrasting movements if pre-classical sonata), with piano
b) one etude or capriccio
c) one short piece chosen by the competitor

3rd Category: born in 1991 and later.
Duration up to 20-30 minutes
a) one movement from a sonata or concerto (two contrasting movements if a pre-classical sonata), with piano
b) one piece or an etude or capriccio for cello solo
c) short piece with piano (including one movement from a pre-classical sonata) chosen by the competitor
d) one movement from one of the 6 suites by J. S. Bach (BWV 1007-1012)

4th Category: born in 1988 and later.
Duration up to 30-40 minutes

1st round
a) one etude or capriccio, or one movement from a suite or sonata for cello solo
b) short piace with piano (including one movement from a pre-classical sonata) chosen by the competitor
c) 1st movement from a concerto (starting with J. Haydn)

2nd round: Finale
d) one movement from one of the 6 suites by J. S. Bach (BWV 1007-1012)
e) whole sonata for cello and piano (starting with L. van Beethoven) chosen by the competitor

There are no age limits for applying to a higher category.
All pieces in all categories should be performed by heart, apart from sonatas for cello and piano.
All performances are open to the public.
The Jury keeps the right to reduce length of performances.
All decisions brought up by the Jury are irrevocable.

Official Awards

Awards will be presented for each category apart from the Pre-category.
All awarded competitors will get a Diploma.
All competitors will get a Diploma of Participation.
There are several special awards of the Competition.
