3rd INTERNATIONAL ANTONIO JANIGRO CELLO COMPETITION
will be held in Zagreb - Croatia from 21st January until 1st February
2004 at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall, Zagreb, Trg Stjepana Radića

Eligibility
Open to the cellists born 1969 and after. All applications must be sent
not later than December 1st 2003 to: Antonio Janigro Cello Competition,
c/o Zagreb Concert Management, Kneza Mislava 18,10000 Zagreb, Croatia.
With the application form please enclose:
a) a copy of the applicant's official birth certificate or passport
b) a short curriculum vitae with the description of the professional career
c) one 13X18 cm photograph suitable for inclusion in the competition catalogue
d) confirmation that the entrance fee has been paid in full.
All applicants will receive a reply by 15th December 2003 at the latest.
Entrance fee for the competitors is 100 Euros payable to the Zagreb Concert
Management, Zagreb bank d.d., account No. S.W.I.F.T. - ZABA HR 2X 2500
- 3277003 or by postal order, "for Antonio Janigro International
Cello Competition". In case of withdrawal, subscription money will
not be reimbursed.
Zagreb Concert Management reserves all the rights for the radio and TV
broadcasts during the Competition without compensation to the participants.
In case of misunderstanding caused by translation, the text in Croatian
is binding.
The competitors have to report at least a day prior to the beginning
of the Competition at the Competition Head Office, Vatroslav Lisinski
Concert Hall, Trg Stjepana Radića 4, Zagreb, and prove their identity
by showing their passports. The performance sequence will be drawn publicly.
Participants must be present during the drawing letters on January 21st
2004 at 7.30. p.m. at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.
Competition Propositions and Program
All compositions must be performed by memory, with the exception of duo
sonatas. All performances are public. The Jury and the Head Office reserves
the right to reduce the lenght of performance.
Decisions of the Jury are irrevocable. Any incorrect information stated
in the application will not be permitted. The compulsory piece of B. Papandopulo
will be send to all participants by mail or post upon the receipt of their
application.
The competition is divided in three stages:
First stage - no longer than 20 minutes
a) G. Cassado-Solo suite
b) B. Papandopulo- Kokoniescche
c) A. Piatti or Servais: any Capriccio
A special award will be given for B. Papandopulo: Kokoniescche.
Second Stage - no longer than 45 minutes
a) any sonata of standard repertoire (from L. van Beethoven and after)
b) any composition by competitor's choice, solo or accompanied (could
be a movement of sonata) up to required lenght
Final stage
a) one of 12 L. Boccherini concertos (Zanibon Edition) or J. Haydn: Concerto
in C major Hob.VII b:1 or J. Haydn:Concerto in D major Hob.VII b:2,Op.101,
G. Rossini: Une larme
b) one of following concerto's accompanied by Symphony Orchestra.
A. Dvorak: Concerto in B minor Op.104
B. R. Schumann: Concerto in A minor Op.129
C. P.I. Tchaikovsky: Variations On a Rococo Theme Op. 33
D. E. Elgar: Concerto in A minor
The competitors will be accompanied by Zagreb soloists (a) and a Zagreb
Philharmonic Orchestra (b).
Official piano accompanist will be available. Each competitor is allowed
one rehearsal free of charge with the official piano accompanist for the
second Stage of the Competition. If they wish so, competitors may request
more rehearsals, which will be charged. Competitors may bring their own
accompanists at their expense. Each finalist will have one rehearsal with
Zagreb soloists and one rehearsal with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Jury will choose up to six competitors for the Final Stage. The organiser
will cover the cost of the accomodation for the finalists only, from the
moment they enter the Final Stage. All competitors will receive certificates
of participation. All prize-winners will receive honorary diplomas.
